Opportunity Information: Apply for 24 555
The National Science Foundation (NSF) "Computer Science for All" grant opportunity (Funding Opportunity Number 24-555) is designed to expand access to high-quality computer science (CS) and computational thinking (CT) education for every U.S. student across preK-12. The core goal is not just to add more coding experiences, but to build the research base and practical supports that help schools offer rigorous, sustainable CS and CT learning opportunities across grade levels. NSF is emphasizing projects that generate useful evidence, tools, and models that schools can realistically adopt and maintain, especially through research efforts and research-practice partnerships (RPPs) that connect researchers with educators, districts, and other implementation partners.
The solicitation highlights three priority needs. First, it seeks projects that strengthen high school CS by preparing teachers to teach rigorous computer science courses, including professional development and the kind of ongoing instructional support teachers typically need once they are back in the classroom. Second, it targets preK-8 settings by funding efforts that help elementary and middle school teachers integrate CS and CT into existing instruction, which usually means creating or refining instructional materials, lesson resources, and teacher preparation approaches that fit within real school schedules and curriculum constraints. Third, it supports schools and districts in building coherent, multi-grade pathways in CS and CT, including defining what those pathways should look like across multiple years and evaluating whether they are working. In practice, that pathway focus is about aligning experiences so students can progress from early CT foundations into more advanced CS coursework without gaps, duplication, or reliance on one-off programs.
Eligibility is limited to specific types of applicants. Proposals may be submitted by U.S.-based non-profit, non-academic organizations that are directly connected to education or research activities, such as independent museums, observatories, research labs, and professional societies. Accredited U.S. institutions of higher education are also eligible, including two-year and four-year colleges (community colleges included), submitting on behalf of their faculty. Federally recognized Tribal Nations may apply as well, as defined under the Federally Recognized Indian Tribe List Act of 1994. If a proposal involves funding work at an international branch campus of a U.S. institution (including via subawards or consultants), the proposal must clearly explain why conducting work there benefits the project and why the activities cannot be performed at the U.S. campus.
This is a discretionary grant program in the Science and Technology and other Research and Development category, associated with CFDA numbers 47.070 and 47.076. The opportunity was created on March 6, 2024, and the original closing date listed is February 12, 2025. The listed award ceiling is $2,000,000, indicating NSF is looking for substantial projects that can produce meaningful research outcomes, scalable implementation strategies, or well-supported partnership models capable of moving CS and CT toward broader, more equitable access in U.S. schools.Apply for 24 555
